Scanning the Internet for Lucy news since 1996'Book'-ing PassageThere are literally dozens of books out about Lucille Ball, her career, her personal life, and her co-stars; a handful were published to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of I Love Lucy in October 2001. Those books included a fiftieth anniversary tribute, a memoir from a friend of Lucy's during her last decade, a new trivia tome, and a "Lucy" one-liner compilation celebrating the show's universal sense of humor. Add those to the texts out since then — including my favorites, Stefan Kanfer's 2003 Ball of Fire and 2004's Lucille: The Life of Lucille Ball, by Kathleen Brady — and the latest Ball career retrospective, 2007's Lucy at the Movies, by Cindy de la Hoz — and a Lucy fan could spend a long time reading about the world's favorite redhead.I won't list all of them here, but you can find a comprehensive list in my own book, Lucy A to Z: The Lucille Ball Encyclopedia, just published in a revised and expanded trade paperback Fourth Edition (January 2008), for the first time with exclusive pictures. It's an encyclopedic look at life with Lucy, born of several years' research, and featuring facts about every aspect of Lucy's life and career. You can order Lucy A to Z by visiting Amazon or Barnes & Noble. Plug in Lucy A to Z (without the quotes) in the search engine. Keep checking here for updated information. Once you have the book, check out the entry "Books, about Lucille Ball." That will get you going.
I've also published three other books about Lucy: Lucy in Print, The Lucille Ball Quiz Book, and The Comic DNA of Lucille Ball: Interpreting the Icon. While you're at Amazon or B&N, plug Lucille Ball, Lucy, or I Love Lucy into their search engines and see what comes up. Also visit LucyLibrary.com at Amazon, a specialized Lucy vendor, or The Lucy-Desi Center and Cathy's Closet online. For older or out-of-print books, try searching and bidding on eBay or one of the other auction houses on the web. And, of course, there's nothing like the feeling of discovery one gets finding a book at a flea market for a fraction of its original price. However you find your Lucy books, there's one guarantee: hours of happy reading. Enjoy!
