The names immediately evoke a smile on the face of anyone who has watched these "wisecracking dames" perform on their hit television shows. Because our TV sets are in our homes, we sometimes personalize our relationships with the actors and actresses who appear on screen. If we like them, they become part of the family. If we don't, we tune out, and they're cancelled. The success of these funny ladies is testament to the fact that audiences loved them, invited them into their homes week after week, and even today still welcome a visit. This newly revamped book (it was formerly called Funny Ladies: Sitcom Queens when published in 2004) features mostly new copy, essays that take a look at the lives of some funny ladies I grew up loving on the small screen -- and the characters they played. Plus: a retooled Top 10 (and a half!); brand-new interviews with Gale Storm (the Foreword) and I Love Lucy's Doris Singleton (the Introduction); and a special never-before heard Lucy anecdote from comedian Larry Storch. For much, much more on these funny ladies and hundreds of others, see my new TVTidbits book, Sitcom Queens: Divas of the Small Screen.
